Sticker - YeiBiCheii #10 - Holograph Die-cut (Color)

$7.00

2.66 x 4”

For someone as young as me, I often get tested about how much I know about my culture. I’m still learning and I’m always open to learning. Thank you to those who are always willing to share with the younger generation.

So, I recently met someone who saw what I’m trying to create and do with my art. This man explained my art philosophy to me without him knowing he was. He told me my concept and understanding of Navajo culture is there. That when I learn and understand more, my art will shift. Which I believe and I’m grateful for what this Dine man had to teach me in the moment.

YeiBiCheii’s are known to be deities that live in the sky. Most recent paintings show them dancing, free falling or soaring through the stars.

With this painting here, I hope you can feel the crisp cold air, the aroma and the sounds of a YeiBiCheii ceremony. Notice how he’s holding 2 rattles…that’s not normal and it’s not done in a real ceremony. I just painted it that way for my own artistic aesthetics.

YeiBiCheii’s are Navajo deity’s that emerge for ceremony and bring an abundance of gratitude and blessings; they only appear during the winter time. Bringing family and community together with the aroma of coffee, stew, frybread, cedar and outdoor open pit fires. The cold breeze circling every curve, hearing the chants and rattles; there’s nothing like a YeiBiCheii.

Respectfully, I only paint YeiBiCheii’s during the winter; so this will be for my 2022-2023 Winter Season
