Light is the source of color and gives me the ability to see and to paint. I was told if I ever get stuck of ideas, come back between the four sacred mountains where the Sun can give me inspiration on my homeland and I can paint what I see.
The color in the background is bright because he’s dancing in the presence of Lightning & Thunder.
I created this painting after reading the Facebook post about a man reminiscing about his time at the Shiprock Fair YeiBiCheii as a child…remembering the YeiBiCheii’s were cracking their whips.
Well…his story made me think of those whips, the cracking noise they make and comparing it to lightning and thunder.
I finished this painting in time for the Scottsdale Indian Festival and the original painting is for sale.
